Diet for Chronic Fatigue and Fibromyalgia

Herbalist Wendy Wilson, on her Herb Talk Live show, suggested the following diet for both chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia. As long as 4 months on this diet may be necessary. Symptoms could include depression, not thinking clearly, memory issues, skin issues, chronic fatigue, abnormal muscle blood flow causing you to feel weak, headaches from lack of sleep, or IBS. She suggested staying on a good multivitamin, but eliminate these foods:
  • Alcohol
  • Artificial Sweeteners
  • Caffine
  • Dairy Products
  • Fruit
  • Meat and Turkey
  • Regular Carbohydrates - Only Complex Carbohydrates
  • Sugar
Wendy suggested brown rice and raw vegetables. Also suggested is 1 ounce (2 tablesspoons) of organic unfiltered apple cider vinegar, diluted in a little water, just before eating. The vinegar allows your liver and pancreas to rest, since it does not have to produce as much stomach acid, and it rinses the uric acid from the joints. Fermented foods, such as sauerkraut, Kimchi, pickled beets, and dill pickles, are suggested to feed the gut flora to counteract the yeast. Garlic was also recommended to counteract the yeast. Allimax 100% Allicin is the only pure allicin garlic supplement. Allimax kills the deadly MRSA bacteria. An acidolpolus (probiotic) will help colonize the good bacteria, as long as it is not in a dairy product. Dr. Ohhira's 12 Plus Probiotic Formula is widely recognized as the best available.

USDA's Top 20 List of Antioxidant Foods

The Human Nutrition Research Center, using the most advanced technologies available, measured the antioxidant levels of more than 100 different types of fruits, vegetables, berries, nuts, and spices. Antioxidants trap rogue molecules, called "free radicals." Everyone has free radicals. Unchecked, "free radicals" can lead to cancer, heart disease, and Alzheimer's. 1. Small red beans (dried)
  2. Wild blueberries
  3. Red kidney beans
  4. Pinto beans
  5. Blueberries (cultivated)
  6. Cranberries
  7. Artichokes (cooked)

Allicin - Nature's Antibiotic

Peter Josling, director of the Garlic Information Center and author of "Allicin - The Heart of Garlic," was a guest on The Debra Ray Show. When you crush fresh garlic, you get Allicin, Alliin (an amino acid), and Allinase (an enzyme). Allicin kills problem bacteria, such as Streptococcus pyogenes, Staphylococcus aureus (present in eczema, psoriasis, and acne), Listeria monocytogenes, Escherichia coli, Salmonella typhimurium, Clostridium perfringens, and Helicobacter pylori. Allicin kills your bad bacteria, but not your good bacteria. As reported by the BBC, "Allicin has worked against the hospital superbug MRSA. It can cure MRSA within weeks. MRSA (Methecillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus) causes an estimated 2,000 deaths in UK hospitals each year."

Check the label of your garlic supplement. Most garlic supplements are Alliin, which your body has to convert to Allicin. Garlic oil capsules and aged garlic extract have no Allicin potential. The Allicin potential of garlic powder depends on processing and it can be easily inactivated by stomach acid, unless enteric-coated. Percentage of Allicin release from enteric-coated tablets varies widely. Allimax is a new stable pure Allicin powder that likes the acid environment of your stomach. Allimax is well tolerated and the recommended dose is only one a day.

NIH Statin Drug Study Shows Many Patients Developed Memory Problems

Dr. Beatrice Golomb, from the University of California in San Diego, headed a study on statin drugs for the National Institute of Health. The major statin drugs are Lipitor, Lescol, Mevacor, Pravachol, Zocor, and Crestor. Many of the patients in her study, who took statin drugs, had memory problems. They had difficulty in remembering names - even those of loved ones, and where they were going, or why. She said there is not really evidence that the benefits excede the harms for women, elderly, or men who are not at high risk. Dr. Colomb also said that patients on statins are at increased risk for developing muscle weakness, nerve damage, and cancer. If you click the link below, and then "Play" about in the middle of the page, you can watch the interesting Statin risk video.

Overactive Bladder

Debra Ray discussed a study done at University of North Carolina's School of Public Health. 3 out of 4 people with overactive bladder, say the condition interferes with their daily life. Less than half of these people said they would consider going to a doctor for their condition. Debra Ray listed some things that can be done. I've added the links.

Tocotrienols Act as Potent Anticancer Agent in Study

Debra Ray read a Japanese study about tocotrienols, a special member of the vitamin E family. They found tocotrienols to be a natural anti-angiogenesis agent that helps keep cancer from spreading. Debra said Vitamin E is usually just dalpha tocopherol. You need to check the label for tocotrienols.

Synthetic Food Additives Can Trigger Many Problems

Jane Hersey, Director of the nonprofit Feingold Association since 1985, was a guest on The Debra Ray Show. Synthetic artificial colors, flavors, & preservatives are made from petroleum (crude oil) - just like gasoline. Since we weren't designed to eat crude oil, many people have problems when they do. When a child's brain can't handle these chemicals, they are put on drugs. Many companies use these chemicals because they are cheaper than natural products. Her book, "Healthier Food for Busy People" - only $5.00, explains how to avoid these additives and foods. These problems include:
  • ADD
  • ADHD
  • Asthma
  • Bedwetting
  • Ear Infections
  • Eczema
  • Headaches
  • Hives
  • Irritability
  • PDD

7 Deadly Nutritional Sins

Michael Garko, Ph.D., was a guest on the Debra Ray Show. He explained his list of 7 deadly nutritional sins.
  1. Refined Sugar and Carbohydrates - Eat complex carbohydrates, such as fruits and vegetables.
  2. Saturated and Trans Fats (Toxic, will kill you or take your health away) - See my January 13, 2006, posting - 40% of Products on Supermarket Shelves Have Trans Fats. Low fat is not the answer (same low quality fats). Eat essential fats, such as Omega 3.
  3. Sodium Overload - Resrict your sodium.
  4. Refined White Flour Products - Eat unrefined whole grains.
  5. Red Meat - Michael feels you are better off not eating meat. He eats chicken & fish. Highly recommends reading Gabriel Cousins' book, "Conscience Eating." Gabriel Cousins is a strict vegetarian.
  6. Calorie Overload - Reduce calories to live longer and feel better.
  7. Dehydration - Drink enough water.
Michael said that being physically inactive accelerates the aging process. He recommends walking 30 minutes a day.

Brown Rice Works as Well as Ace Inhibitor Drugs in Study

Losing weight, exercise, eating more fruits & vegetables (for the potassium & magnesium), and fish oil should help with high blood pressure. In addition, a study done at the National Research Institute, in Japan, shows that rice bran lowers the blood pressure as well as ace inhibitor drugs. Brown rice still has the rice bran in it. None of the side effects of the ace inhibitor drugs, such as chronic cough, allergic reactions, kidney problems, and dizziness.

Effective Way to Battle Stubborn Belly Fat

Belly fat is linked to insulin resistance, bad blood sugar control, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, congestive heart failure, fatty liver and more. Switching your diet from refined foods with bad fats to a more whole foods diet and taking chromium picolinate should help. Chromium is deficient in as much as 90% of American's diet. In addition, a new study done by Saint Lukes Hospital, in Kansas City, shows that lifting weights, twice a week, for an hour, was an effective way for women to battle belly fat.

Lew's Chocolate Garbanzo Bean Quick Bread Recipe - No Dairy, Eggs, Gluten, Sugar, Wheat, or Yeast

  • 2 & 1/4 cups Garbanzo Bean Flour (if not available locally - Bob's Red Mill Garbanzo Bean Flour online)
  • 1/2 cup Whole Grain Brown Rice Flour (if not available locally - Bob's Red Mill Whole Grain Brown Rice Flour online)
  • 1/4 cup Organic Cocoa Powder (not roasted - Shiloh Farms makes 16 oz bags)
  • 1/4 cup Extra Light Olive Oil
  • 1 & 1/2 teaspoons Baking Soda
  • 1 & 1/2 cups Unsweetened Organic Soy Milk - add 1 tablespoon + 1 & 1/2 teaspoons of lemon juice & let sit 15 minutes to thicken up (Edensoy or Westsoy)(substitute for buttermilk - 1 teaspoon lemon juice for each 1/3 cup Unsweetened Organic Soy Milk) (Rice milk will not work well. Since soy milk has much more protein, it will thicken better.)
  • 2 tablespoons Lecithin Granules - add 6 tablespoons of water and stir until the granules dissolve (substitute for 2 large eggs)
  • 2 teaspoons Organic Vanilla Extract (Alcohol Free is much better)
  • 2 teaspoons Organic Cinamin
  • 2 teaspoons Celtic Sea Salt
  • 2 tablespoons + 2 teaspoons Xylitol*
*Xylitol is a Natural & Safe Sugar Substitute*

NOW Xylitol - 8 oz. - at the Lowest Price on the Net

Makes 1 large loaf. Instead of greasing a 9" x 5" x 2-3/4" bread pan, a piece of parchment paper folded over double and cut to fit in just the bottom, worked better. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 to 50 minutes. Ran a thin spatula around and turned over. Bread fell right out and parchment paper peeled right off. If you put your bread in the refrigerator, it will lose it's freshness faster then leaving it out. If you want to keep it longer than 2 days, slice & freeze in separate freezer bags within 24 hours, but allow it to cool first.
