Study Links Bacteria In Gut to Obesity
Jeffrey Gordon, M.D, of the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, is a professor & director of the Center for Genome Sciences. Gordon's study suggests that the bacterial mix in lean & obese people differs. Twelve obese people were studied by Gordon's team for 2 types of gut bacteria. One type of gut bacterium was more common in lean people than in obese people and the other type more common in obese people than in lean people. The obese people went on a diet for 1 year. Their gut bacteria levels started to look more like the gut bacteria levels of lean people as they lost weight.
