40% of People Over the Age of 60 Are B12 Deficient

Mitchell Ghen, M.D., a guest on the Debra Ray Show, talked about vitamin B12. Vegetarians are often deficient in vitamin B12 because they don't eat meat. Older people are often B12 deficient because the intrinsic factor, in your stomach, that converts cyanocobalamin to methylcobalamin declines with age. To avoid this conversion, Dr. Ghen recommends taking the methylcobalamin form. Best way to take the sublingual methylcobalamin form is to hold it under the tongue until dissolved. Since most sublingual tablets are in the cyanocobalamin form, check the label for methylcobalamin form. All the sublingual B12 available at The Vitamin Shoppe is the cyanocobalamin form. Change Your Diet Now for Future Health!

Gary Null suggested the following diet changes to ensure health as you age.
  • Stop anything that causes inflamation: meat, poultry, shellfish, dairy products, sugars, artificial sweeteners, caffeine, alcohol, chlorine, fluoride, carbonated beverages, processed pastas & bread products, non-organic produce, and deep fried food.
  • Add cruciferous vegetables: broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, onions, asparagus, mustard products, and sprouts.
  • Add whole grains: nuts, seeds, legumes, tofu, tempi, millet, buckwheat, brown rice, spelt, rye, quinoa, and oats.
  • Add starchy vegetables: yams, sweet potatoes, gourds, squash, and parsnips.
  • Drink 1 gallon of liquid a day: green teas, lemon juice, vitamin C (3 times a day), and chlorophyll (2 or 3 glasses of vegetable juice made from green vegetables).
  • Add for the brain: ginkgo biloba, choline, phosphatidylserine (200 mg a day), CoQ10 (300 mg a day), and vitamin E (mixed tocopherols).
  • Check with an alternative doctor to see if they can get you off of any medications, using natural alternatives.

Lew's Vegan Bed & Breakfast Stay

Serendipity Bed & Breakfast is located just a half block from the boardwalk in Ocean City, New Jersey. Ocean City is 15 minutes south of Atlantic City and 30 minutes north of Victorian Cape May. Open all year, Serendipity is fully air conditioned. Each of the six tastefully decorated rooms feature cable TV, VCR, air conditioner, private (or shared) bath, ceiling fan, hair dryer, and clock radio. They will accommodate vegetarian, vegan, heart-healthy, hi-protein, gluten-free, and microbiotic diets. Enjoy a healthy breakfast starting with freshly brewed coffee, fresh orange juice, and Bill's home-baked muffins. If I can manage to bake muffins that are 10% as good as Bill's, I will be very happy. Their menu of six choices for breakfast changes daily. Extra cost additions, such as a 12 ounce glass of fresh carrot juice, are available. In my opinion, their breakfasts are healthier and taste better than breakfasts I have had on Carnival, Celebrity, and Costa cruise ships. You will also enjoy a very relaxing, clean, and friendly atmosphere.

In your room, Serendipity has listed recommendations for lunch and dinner. We tried Katina's Gyro Restaurant, a Greek restaurant with vegetarian selections. Just 3 blocks away at 501 E 9th Street. We chose the Vegetarian Platter for dinner and were hooked. Back for lunch, we choose the Turkey Sandwich, also delicious. For the remainder of our stay, we had lunch and dinner at Katrina's Gyro.

Omega-3s Reduce Cardiovascular Disease & Cancer Risk by More Than 50% & Help Alzheimer's Disease

Pamela Seefeld, R. Ph., Pharmacognosy Consultant, a guest on the Debra Ray Show, talked about Omega-3 fish oils at breakneck speed. She offered some tips on taking fish oils:
  • Molecular distilled/pharmacy grade is better because the processing is more advanced. She did recommend Carlson's, even though it is not molecularly distilled. Nordic Naturals, which is molecularly distilled, was also recommended.
  • Turn the label around - the EPA & DHA amounts added together should be at least 850 to 1,000 mg per day. Most people should be taking 2,000 to 3,000 mg a day, especially if they are treating something. She recommended at least 3,000 mg a day for Alzheimer's Disease.
  • Concentrated is better because you don't have to take as many capsules.
  • Have a handful of walnuts or a piece of cheese with the fish oil to help digestion. If it has been properly processed, there won't be any fish smell or taste.
