40% of People Over the Age of 60 Are B12 Deficient
Mitchell Ghen, M.D., a guest on the Debra Ray Show, talked about vitamin B12. Vegetarians are often deficient in vitamin B12 because they don't eat meat. Older people are often B12 deficient because the intrinsic factor, in your stomach, that converts cyanocobalamin to methylcobalamin declines with age. To avoid this conversion, Dr. Ghen recommends taking the methylcobalamin form. Best way to take the sublingual methylcobalamin form is to hold it under the tongue until dissolved. Since most sublingual tablets are in the cyanocobalamin form, check the label for methylcobalamin form. All the sublingual B12 available at The Vitamin Shoppe is the cyanocobalamin form. The link below is for the sublingual methylcobalamin form.
I had a B12 shot 40 years ago and immediately felt recharged. I've been taking the sublingual cyanocobalamin form with not much results. Since I've heard that the sublingual methylcobalamin form is as effective as shots, I will try it. Didn't even know there was 2 forms of vitamin B12.
