Butterbur as Effective as Allegra or Zyrtec for Hay Fever!

The herb butterbur was shown to be as effective as Allegra or Zyrtec in double-blind studies published in the British Medical Journal. Other double-blind studies, published in the British Medical Journal, show that against other drugs, butterbur won hands down! Butterbur did not produce the sedative side-effects associated with antihistimines and was well tolerated.

Petasins, the active constituents in Butterbur, are believed to reduce smooth muscle spasm and have an anti-inflammatory effect. Butterbur also contains pyrrolizidine alkaloids which are associated with liver toxicity and carcinogenesis and considered unsafe. Extracts are available in which the pyrrolizidine alkaloids have been removed. The Now Butterbur, at the link below, is free of pyrrolizidine alkaloids, so it is safe to use regularly.
