Maintain Bone & Joint Health/Osteoporosis

Sherrill Sellman, auuthor of "Hormone Heresy: What Women Must Know About Their Hormones," was a guest on "Lets Talk Nutrition" with Dr. Michael Garko, Ph.D. You need 18 bone building nutrients (those we know of so far). If you take calcium by itself, it never really makes it to repair bone. It ends up in the tissues as crystals, bone spurs, and calcifications that can end up as bursitis, cataracts, & gall bladder or kidney stones. See my April 3, 2006, posting - 2,400 Patients Taking Fosamoax & Other Bone-Building Drugs Have Reported Bone Death in Their Jaws. For those that want to avoid these problems, Sherrill had these suggestions for bone and joint health.

*Good Digestive Enzymes - Source Naturals, Vegetarian Pancreatin Digestive Plant Enzymes, 475 mg, 120 Capsules
*Good Probiotics - Essential Formulas Inc., Dr. Ohhira's 12 Plus Probiotic Formula, 60 Capsules
*Ultra Bone-Up by Jarrow Formulas - Jarrow Formulas, Ultra Bone-Up, 120 Easy-Solv Tablets
*Biosil Liquid Silicon by Jarrow Formulas (backed by studies and also good for hair, nails, & skin) - Jarrow Formulas, Biosil Liquid Silicon, 30 ml
*Strength Training, 3 Times a Week, with Gentle Weights (backed by studies on 80 & 90 year olds)
*Avoid Drinking Sodas (increases your risk of bone loss by 3 to 5 times due to the phosphoric acid)

See my March 9, 2006, posting - How to Listen to Let's Talk Nutrition with Michael Garko, Ph.D.
