Proton Pump Inhibitors (Nexiun, Prilosec, Lozac, etc.) Triple Your Risk of C-diff Bacteria Diarrhea
New Canadian research study shows that the use of proton pump inhibitor drugs, that suppress stomach acid, increases the risk of increasingly common infectious forms of diarrhea. Taking these drugs triples your risk of ending up with a C-diff (Clostridium difficile) bacteria diarrhea. C-diff (Clostridium difficile) is an increasingly deadly bacteria because it isn't responding to the strongest drugs. Stomach acid is there for a reason. Stomach acid is essential for the digestion of proteins and helps keep bacteria away. These drugs don't cure the problem.
