Two Tablespoons of Olive Oil a Day for Heart & Gastric Health
Dr. Stephen Bittiker recommends taking about on ounce of olive oil a day. He said that many people living in the Mediterranean area drink a shotglass of olive oil first thing in the morning. He noted that medical studies show that these people have the lowest rate of heart disease in the world. Olive oil also keeps the membranes in your body soft and supple. Another property of olive oil is that it keeps the percentage of HCL (Hydrochloric Acid) in our stomach low. Dr. Bittiker suggested putting the one ounce (about 2 tablespoons) of olive oil in tomato juice, tomato or lentil soup, or on your salad. He also recommends the Mediterranean Diet, which includes:
- grains (spaghetti)
- fruits
- vegetables
- legumes - nuts, beans, peas, soybeans, tofu, soy milk, and soy flour
- olive oil
- fish
- red meat - as an additive, not a main course
