Are You Vitamin D Deficient?
John J. Cannell, M.D., a guest on the Debra Ray Show, stated that Vitamin D experts believe that more than 50% of Americans are Vitamin D deficient. He is the Executive Director of the Cholecalciferol Council. In 20 minutes of exposure to the summer sun, your body makes 20,000 units of Vitamin D. If the sun's rays are passing thru glass or clothing, no Vitamin D is produced. Your body stops making more Vitamin D after it makes 20,000 units. The government RDA is only 200 units a day. If you get 20 minutes of exposure to the sun a day, Dr. Cannell suggests taking 2,000 units of Vitamin D a day. If you are not getting 20 minutes of exposure to the sun a day, he suggests taking 4,000 units of Vitamin D a day. Dr. Cannell recommends using only Vitamin D3 (as cholecalciferol), NOT Vitamin D2 (as ergocalciferol).
